About the PC and Light Controller PCB

PC and Light Controller is an open source ESP32 PCB design by HighCarlSagan, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 81.2 × 58.9 mm, with 28 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the TPS259807ONRGER. By type, the board carries 13 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 ICs, 3 connectors and 3 diodes.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

PC UPS Controller, with additional switches for controlling any nearby circuits using ESP32.

A single-board ESP32 controller that remotely actuates a PC's UPS power button via servo and switches three 5 V LED lighting channels via eFuses — all driven from a Telegram bot. Part of a larger homelab automation setup.

I needed a physical "finger" to press the UPS power button on my desk so I could wake the PC from anywhere — usually while travelling, sometimes just from another room — without opening the UPS chassis (which would void warranty) and without buying a generic smart-plug solution that wouldn't fit cleanly into the rest of my homelab.

PC and Light Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the PC and Light Controller use?

The PC and Light Controller is built around the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the PC and Light Controller PCB?

The PC and Light Controller measures 81.2 × 58.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PC and Light Controller?

28 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PC and Light Controller design files?

From the HighCarlSagan/PC_and_Light_Controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PC and Light Controller design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the PC and Light Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
