About the TTL-to-RGB PCB

TTL-to-RGB is an open source PCB design by hkzlab, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 47 × 62.2 mm, with 31 components from 19 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the GAL20V8, 74LS244 and AMS1117-5.0. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 9 capacitors, 4 ICs, 4 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

This board converts CGA/EGA/MDA/Hercules TTL signals into analog RGB signals that can be fed into a compatible monitor

This board converts CGA/EGA/MDA/Hercules TTL signals into analog RGB signals that can be fed into a compatible monitor.

Depending on jumper settings, it can automatically detect MDA/Hercules and Hi-res EGA modes (uses vsync polarity detection), can be forced into low-res 64 colors EGA and can perform the "brown-fix" for CGA.

The board uses a GAL20V8 PLD to implement the conversions, sync polarity detection, brown-fix, etc.

TTL-to-RGB: common questions

How big is the TTL-to-RGB PCB?

The TTL-to-RGB measures 47 × 62.2 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TTL-to-RGB?

31 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TTL-to-RGB design files?

From the hkzlab/TTL-to-RGB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TTL-to-RGB design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
