About the Tapecart diy PCB

Tapecart diy is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by ikorb, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 33 × 53 mm, with 25 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the D5V0F4U6SO, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74HC4053 and W25Q16DV. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 ICs, 3 transistors, 3 connectors and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

This directory contains KiCAD schematics and layout for three different implementations of the tapecart:

This version of the tapecart is optimized for DIY builders - it does not require any SMD components. Since DIP versions of the flash chips are a bit hard to source, it has an alternate footprint for using an SMD flash chip instead. The firmware for this version must be compiled using the config file "config-diy". A precompiled hex file is located in the subdirectory "firmware".

Tapecart diy: common questions

What microcontroller does the Tapecart diy use?

The Tapecart diy is built around the D5V0F4U6SO, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Tapecart diy PCB?

The Tapecart diy measures 33 × 53 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Tapecart diy?

25 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Tapecart diy design files?

From the ikorb/tapecart repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Tapecart diy design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ikorb. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Tapecart diy without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
