About the Lamp control PCB

Lamp control is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by Indemnity83, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 45 × 42.5 mm, with 22 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3 and TTP223-BA6. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 connectors, 3 ICs, 2 switches and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

This project is a custom ESP8266 (ESP-12E) + ESPHome retrofit for a standard touch‑controlled bedside reading lamp, adding full Wi‑Fi control and Home Assistant integration.

This project is a custom ESP8266 (ESP-12E) + ESPHome retrofit for a standard touch‑controlled bedside reading lamp, adding full Wi‑Fi control and Home Assistant integration.

Originally built for a fun (and slightly devious) bedtime automation, it’s now a clean, reusable smart‑lamp controller with both open hardware and open firmware.

Same lamp on the outside. Entirely new personality on the inside.

Lamp control: common questions

What microcontroller does the Lamp control use?

The Lamp control is built around the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Lamp control PCB?

The Lamp control measures 45 × 42.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Lamp control?

22 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Lamp control design files?

From the Indemnity83/lamp-control repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Lamp control design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Indemnity83. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Lamp control without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
