About the CustomMacroPad PCB

CustomMacroPad is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Jack-Jacobson, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 114.3 × 76.2 mm, with 10 components from 2 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-DevKitM-1, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 9 switches and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Learning PCB and electronic creation through making a bluetooth macropad!

This is a 9-key macropad with an ESP32C3 dev module at it's core. It will be able to play, pause, control volume, skip, and have programmable macro keys.

This project was intended to help me get into the hardware part of creation. I had to learn KiCad, CPP, and more to be able to make it. In the future I also plan on using these skills to make a full keyboard!

CustomMacroPad: common questions

What microcontroller does the CustomMacroPad use?

The CustomMacroPad is built around the ESP32-C3-DevKitM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the CustomMacroPad PCB?

The CustomMacroPad measures 114.3 × 76.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the CustomMacroPad?

10 components, from 2 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CustomMacroPad design files?

From the Jack-Jacobson/CustomMacroPad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CustomMacroPad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Jack-Jacobson. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the CustomMacroPad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
