About the Leopad PCB

Leopad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by jai-git4208, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 121.4 × 42.9 mm, with 12 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 8 switches, 2 diodes, 1 IC and 1 LED.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Leopad is a custom-built 8-key macropad powered by the XIAO RP2040 DIP, designed for creators, coders, gamers, and anyone who wants fast, programmable shortcuts in a tiny footprint. Inspired by Leo, the cutest little cat (and the real boss behind this project), Leopad blends functionality, personality, and clean engineering into one adorable device

LEOPAD (Layout Enhancement & Optimization Pad or a cute cat :3 ) is an 8-key programmable designed specifically for developers and programmers. It streamlines your coding workflow with dedicated shortcuts for common programming tasks, Git operations, and system controls.

As developers, we constantly switch between coding, debugging, version control, and managing our workspace. LEOPAD puts the most essential shortcuts right at your fingertips with an intuitive 8-key layout that includes an OLED display for visual feedback and RGB lighting for style.

Leopad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Leopad use?

The Leopad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Leopad PCB?

The Leopad measures 121.4 × 42.9 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.1962 mm thick.

How many components are on the Leopad?

12 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Leopad design files?

From the jai-git4208/leopad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Leopad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jai-git4208. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Leopad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
