Maximum Power Point Tracking board meant for use in the QSET 3U CubeSat

A flight-ready 4-channel distributed Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) battery charging and power distribution board designed in KiCad for CubeSat nanosatellite missions. Engineered for the Queen's Space Engineering Team (QSET) satellite branch.

4x Distributed Synchronous MPPT Buck Chargers (LTC4162): 4 independent MPPT tracking channels (1 per CubeSat body face), eliminating partial shading and thermal mismatch losses across orbit. Autonomous Constant-Current / Constant-Voltage (CC/CV) power-path management charging a 2S Li-ion battery bus (~8.4V nominal). Phase-synchronized 1.5 MHz…

Sat mppt: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sat mppt use?

The Sat mppt is built around the STM32L496RGTx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Sat mppt PCB?

The Sat mppt measures 90.2 × 95.9 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Sat mppt?

281 components, from 78 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sat mppt design files?

From the JaronCyna/sat_mppt_pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sat mppt design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with JaronCyna. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Sat mppt without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
