This is a reworking of https://github.com/hzeller/rpi-rgb-led-matrix/tree/master/adapter.

Both versions will work on both a zero and an ordinary RPi. - Some 64-row panels have a fifth address pin, labeled E, either at pin 4 or pin 8. Use the corresponding solder jumper to accommodate those panels. Obviously, you cannot mix 32- and 64-row panels on the same chain. The zero version is meant to be plugged into an RPi Zero/ZeroW and then the whole thing plugged directly into the HUB75 connector. Obviously only the middle 16 pins are used, but the 20-pin header makes it a lot easier to properly…

Rpi rgb led matrix zero: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rpi rgb led matrix zero use?

The Rpi rgb led matrix zero is built around the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Rpi rgb led matrix zero PCB?

The Rpi rgb led matrix zero measures 65 × 30 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rpi rgb led matrix zero?

5 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rpi rgb led matrix zero design files?

From the jayeye/ji repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rpi rgb led matrix zero design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Rpi rgb led matrix zero without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
