About the VersaTermMinus PCB

VersaTermMinus is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by jimbro1000, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 86.2 × 78 mm, with 53 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry Pi Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the MAX3232. By type, the board carries 23 resistors, 7 transistors, 6 connectors, 6 diodes, 5 capacitors and 3 switches.

You can order PCBs for this project direct from PCBWay's shared projects (https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/VersaTermMinus_d8ad71ad.html)

There are four significant changes to the board:

1. The barrel-jack power supply connection is deleted 2. The USB socket for keyboard is now micro-USB 3. The MAX3232 is integrated into the board 4. Where possible components are SMD

VersaTermMinus: common questions

What microcontroller does the VersaTermMinus use?

The VersaTermMinus is built around the Raspberry Pi Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the VersaTermMinus PCB?

The VersaTermMinus measures 86.2 × 78 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the VersaTermMinus?

53 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the VersaTermMinus design files?

From the jimbro1000/VersaTermMinus repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the VersaTermMinus design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which jimbro1000 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the VersaTermMinus without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
