About the Esp8266Interface PCB

Esp8266Interface is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by jimharrigan, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60 × 50 mm, with 25 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP01, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the LM1084-3.3 and PC817. By type, the board carries 7 connectors, 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 3 diodes, 2 ICs and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Esp8266 Interface

A WiFi bridge between a dry-contact (or opto-isolated) signal and MQTT / HTTP, built around an ESP-01 module. It reports the state of an external input to an MQTT topic and/or a pair of webhook URLs, and drives a relay output in response to MQTT messages or a polled URL.

Typical use is retrofitting network connectivity onto existing wired equipment — a doorbell transformer, an alarm panel output, a gate contact — without modifying it.

Esp8266Interface: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp8266Interface use?

The Esp8266Interface is built around the ESP01, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Esp8266Interface PCB?

The Esp8266Interface measures 60 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp8266Interface?

25 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp8266Interface design files?

From the jimharrigan/Esp8266Interface repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp8266Interface design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which jimharrigan chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Esp8266Interface without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
