About the GRAD9000 PCB

GRAD9000 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by joelgott, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40 × 60 mm, with 15 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MOUDLE-SEEEDUINO-XIAO-ESP32C3, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the DFR0299. By type, the board carries 6 connectors, 3 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 diodes and 2 capacitors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion and audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

HAL9000 Inspired robot

This project is strongly inspired by the HAL9000 robot from Stanley Kubrick's 2001 Space Odyssey. I used an ESP32 based board for the main logic and an audio module so that it looks like it's talking. Most of the mechanical parts are recicled or 3D printed. This repository contains all the contents for making and programming the robot.

This robot uses a seed studio XIAO ESP32-c3 development board with a DFPlayer audio module. In the PCB folder there is a custom designed PCB that contains both boards, recieves a 5V input and has, a servo controller connector, an i2c bus output, a rgb led…

GRAD9000: common questions

What microcontroller does the GRAD9000 use?

The GRAD9000 is built around the MOUDLE-SEEEDUINO-XIAO-ESP32C3, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the GRAD9000 PCB?

The GRAD9000 measures 40 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the GRAD9000?

15 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the GRAD9000 design files?

From the joelgott/GRAD9000 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the GRAD9000 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with joelgott. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the GRAD9000 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
