About the Fire-24-c PCB

Fire-24-c is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by johanputzolu-cmd, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 18.9 × 31.6 mm, with 40 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2354B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the 2332/2364 SOCKET, AP2112K-3.3, USBLC6-2P6 and W25Q16JVSS. By type, the board carries 18 capacitors, 8 resistors, 5 ICs, 4 connectors, 3 diodes and 1 crystal.

In the 2332 base, CS1 and CS2 are non-contiguous. This is a side-effect of making the 27xx OE/CE pins contiguous. There is no way to make them both contiguous, and also make the X pins contiguous with the CS pin in the 2364 case. This design makes the trade-off to keep the pins contiguous for more ROM types. The PIO algorithm also supports non-contiguous CS pins, as used for the 2332, so…

Fire-24-c: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fire-24-c use?

The Fire-24-c is built around the RP2354B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Fire-24-c PCB?

The Fire-24-c measures 18.9 × 31.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fire-24-c?

40 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fire-24-c design files?

From the johanputzolu-cmd/Onerom repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fire-24-c design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which johanputzolu-cmd chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Fire-24-c without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
