About the Io PCB

Io is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by jtsiomb, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 142 × 100 mm, with 42 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA644P-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74LS138, 74HC245, DISP_5110, 74HC05 and MAX232. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 10 connectors, 10 resistors, 6 ICs, 3 jumpers and 1 crystal.

Homebrew 68k computer project 1 ===============================

About ----- The purpose of this project is to design a minimal but useful homebrew computer, based on the Motorola 68010 16/32-bit processor.

The current hardware design is broken into a main processor board, and an I/O and expansion board with an AVR microcontroller playing the role of UART, timer, and RTC all in one.

Io: common questions

What microcontroller does the Io use?

The Io is built around the ATMEGA644P-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Io PCB?

The Io measures 142 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Io?

42 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Io design files?

From the jtsiomb/m68kcomputer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Io design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which jtsiomb chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Io without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
