About the Star PCB

Star is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by klushok-etv, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50.7 × 48.4 mm, with 34 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-12F, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3. By type, the board carries 20 diodes, 5 capacitors, 3 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 connectors and 2 switches.

ESP kicad lib: https://github.com/jdunmire/kicad-ESP8266. -> this library has most models but the centers of the pads are located in an odd place. the symbol is also not colored.

The two buttons are reset and io0, required for programming. IO0 can also be used as a user input pin.

Star: common questions

What microcontroller does the Star use?

The Star is built around the ESP-12F, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Star PCB?

The Star measures 50.7 × 48.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Star?

34 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Star design files?

From the klushok-etv/christmas2021 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Star design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with klushok-etv. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Star without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
