About the Schmittsynth PCB

Schmittsynth is an open source PCB design by kzalesak, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99 × 99 mm, with 55 components from 15 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 40106. By type, the board carries 29 connectors, 10 resistors, 7 capacitors, 4 diodes, 1 IC and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

A PCB of a basic 40106 Schmitt trigger based oscillator. Developed for an Engineers Without Borders workshop at University College London. Allows you to generate square waves based on turnable knobs and light input.

A simple square-wave synthesizer circuit using inverting gates (Logical NOT, Schmitt triggers) in the 40106 Integrated Circuit and a few discrete components. The KiCAD schematic, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and a cached library are provided. This project was developed for the University College London branch of Engineers Without Borders as a basis for a workshop.

Schmittsynth: common questions

How big is the Schmittsynth PCB?

The Schmittsynth measures 99 × 99 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Schmittsynth?

55 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Schmittsynth design files?

From the kzalesak/Schmittsynth repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Schmittsynth design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with kzalesak. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
