About the NSSL EFM Orientation PCB

NSSL EFM Orientation is an open source PCB design by LeemanGeophysicalLLC, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 158.8 × 47 mm, with 62 components from 31 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 1-0001471, 1-0000207, 1-0000785 and 1-0000446. By type, the board carries 21 resistors, 16 capacitors, 9 connectors, 5 diodes, 4 ICs and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Orientation paddle PCB for NSSL EFM

In the paddle opposite the motor driver, an orientation sensor based on a simple IMU provides rough data on the instrument’s orientation over time. This allows analysis of pendulum motion and other movements of the full instrument package. The system is designed for easy sensor replacement, and all orientation data are logged to a microSD card.

See the main instrument repo for documentation and the rest of the instrument.
