About the Trackpad PCB

Trackpad is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by lou12de39r, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 79 × 49 mm, with 20 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 6 capacitors, 1 IC and 1 connector.

This board is derived from GR-Trackpad65 by geek-rabb1t (MIT License, see LICENSEGR-Trackpad65; original files in srcgrt65/).

GR-Trackpad65 is 65 × 49 mm with 15 Tx × 10 Rx. Its electrode pitch is 4.2 mm (Tx) × 4.7 mm (Rx). Keeping 10 Tx columns gives exactly 42 mm, so the electrode shape, pitch and IC surroundings are reused as they are. Only the board was cut down.

Trackpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Trackpad use?

The Trackpad is built around the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Trackpad PCB?

The Trackpad measures 79 × 49 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Trackpad?

20 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Trackpad design files?

From the lou12de39r/ashiyu repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Trackpad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with lou12de39r. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Trackpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
