Design and Control of a Solar-Powered Irrigation System for Remote Farmlands

An STM32-based MPPT buck-boost converter for solar-powered soil moisture monitoring and pump control.

This project presents the design and implementation of a solar-powered irrigation system optimised for off-grid rural use. The system integrates a photovoltaic panel, a non-inverting DC–DC buck-boost converter, a backup battery, a water pump, and a microcontroller-based control unit on a custom four-layer printed circuit board. A perturb-and-observe maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is implemented to maximise energy extraction from the solar panel across varying irradiance and…

SolarSystem: common questions

How big is the SolarSystem PCB?

The SolarSystem measures 217.2 × 201.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 0.19 mm thick.

How many components are on the SolarSystem?

71 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SolarSystem design files?

From the louieoneil19/Thesis repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SolarSystem design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with louieoneil19. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
