About the I2C mux buffer PCB
I2C mux buffer is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by Luca-Jones, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 61.5 × 26 mm, with 15 components from 9 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the Raspberry Pi, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the TCA9548APWR and TCA9617ADGKR. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 4 capacitors, 3 connectors and 2 ICs.
It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

The mechanical design was done with Onshape as our CAD tool. It is simple to use and allows for collaboration and version control. Many different manufacturing techniques were used such as 3D printing, laser jet cutting, water jet cutting, lathing, and milling.
The chassis was built out of hardboard and reinforced with water-jet cut aluminium bars. This component required the most communication to perfect as every other part of the robot needs to screw into it.

I2C mux buffer: common questions
What microcontroller does the I2C mux buffer use?
The I2C mux buffer is built around the Raspberry Pi, from the Raspberry Pi family.
How big is the I2C mux buffer PCB?
The I2C mux buffer measures 61.5 × 26 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the I2C mux buffer?
15 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the I2C mux buffer design files?
From the Luca-Jones/enph-253-pet-rescue repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the I2C mux buffer design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Luca-Jones. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the I2C mux buffer without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
