Stylish, highly integrated power hat for Nintendo Wii, with software-controlled undervolting

There are 3 variants of the Thundervolt PCB. As of 2024-07-07, Thundervolt Lite and Thundervolt 1 have been released. - Thundervolt Lite - A low cost revision of the original design with identical functionality to Thundervolt 1. It does not require VIPPO and only costs $7 for 10 bare boards! - Thundervolt Lite is easier to assemble and easier to solder to the Wii motherboard. - Fully tested and released to the public! This folder contains the KiCAD source and Gerbers. - Thundervolt 1 - The original design, with software-controlled undervolting and temperature sensing. It requires a VIPPO/POFV…

Thundervolt lite: common questions

What microcontroller does the Thundervolt lite use?

The Thundervolt lite is built around the ATTINY1616-MNR, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Thundervolt lite PCB?

The Thundervolt lite measures 46.9 × 54.8 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 0.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Thundervolt lite?

46 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Thundervolt lite design files?

From the mackieks/thundervolt repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Thundervolt lite design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mackieks. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Thundervolt lite without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
