About the Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface PCB

Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Maczla, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70 × 90 mm, with 56 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the AP63205WU. By type, the board carries 23 resistors, 17 capacitors, 5 diodes, 4 transistors, 3 connectors and 1 IC.

From the project

Automotive interface board for Raspberry Pi Pico with 12 V power protection, vehicle signal inputs, SWC analog inputs and configurable PWM output.

This project is a custom automotive interface board designed around the Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040). It enables safe integration of the microcontroller with a standard 12 V vehicle electrical system by providing power conversion, input signal conditioning, protection circuits, and configurable PWM output.

The board was designed entirely from scratch in KiCad 9, following recommended PCB layout practices for switching power supplies and automotive electronics.

Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface: common questions

What microcontroller does the Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface use?

The Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface PCB?

The Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface measures 70 × 90 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface?

56 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface design files?

From the Maczla/Raspberry_Pi_Pico_Automotive_Interface repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Maczla chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Raspberry Pi Pico Automotive Interface without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
