About the Minimal dac PCB

Minimal dac is an open source PCB design by MarkWestbroek, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 90 × 90 mm, with 14 components from 10 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the AD5754BREZ. By type, the board carries 6 capacitors, 5 resistors, 2 connectors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

A central brain running on teensy or a lighter MCU to process any control signals (MIDI, CV, our own) into the same but adding logic, ADSRs, DCOs, CV matrices etc. to it

An open platform for playable instruments, recallable patches and musical control. Build and play modular patches in your browser, run shared DSP on a Teensy, and connect supported external hardware through MIDI, CV, gates and relay switching.

MusicBrain started as a way to give analog rigs memory. It now also includes digital synthesizers, samplers and effects. External audio paths can remain analog; internal DSP and USB audio are digital. Recall of external equipment depends on which parameters and connections its hardware can actually control.

Minimal dac: common questions

How big is the Minimal dac PCB?

The Minimal dac measures 90 × 90 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Minimal dac?

14 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Minimal dac design files?

From the MarkWestbroek/MusicBrain repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Minimal dac design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which MarkWestbroek chose for the repository.
