About the 3D-Snake PCB

3D-Snake is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by mathisfun2048, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60 × 60 mm, with 9 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the Pololu_Breakout_DRV8825. By type, the board carries 7 connectors and 2 modules.

From the project

lets port snake into the third dimension!

The basic framework of this project came from the undercity hackathon, where me and my teammates were able to scrapyard a prototype to work. This project is the same project but refined, adding a PCB to better manage wires and audio to better communicate to the user when the snake dies. Some minor software improvements have also been made (such as re-working the moving mechanism when the snake reaches the top pannel).

3D-Snake: common questions

What microcontroller does the 3D-Snake use?

The 3D-Snake is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the 3D-Snake PCB?

The 3D-Snake measures 60 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 3D-Snake?

9 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 3D-Snake design files?

From the mathisfun2048/3D-Snake repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 3D-Snake design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mathisfun2048. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the 3D-Snake without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
