Basic ecp5: common questions
What microcontroller does the Basic ecp5 use?
The Basic ecp5 is built around the ECP5U_45_CABGA256, from the FPGA family.
How big is the Basic ecp5 PCB?
The Basic ecp5 measures 100 × 68 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Basic ecp5?
62 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Basic ecp5 design files?
From the mattvenn/basic-ecp5-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Basic ecp5 design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its CC0-1.0 license, which mattvenn chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Basic ecp5 without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
