About the Voice assistant for-HA PCB

Voice assistant for-HA is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Matyas604, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 75.1 × 44.6 mm, with 30 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3 and MAX98357A. By type, the board carries 10 capacitors, 7 resistors, 6 connectors, 3 ICs, 2 switches and 2 inductors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

A voice assistant that connects to Home Assistant, allowing you to send and receive voice commands through it. This enables Home Assistant to perform actions based on voice commands. It works in combination with Groq TTS, STT, and Groq AI. It can also provide any information from the internet, making it a great AI assistant.

I found out that voice recognition can run on the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8, so I decided to use it because it’s relatively inexpensive. Since I also wanted it to have a high-quality speaker for playing music, the total cost is quite high, but that’s because of the speaker, the custom PCB, and other components.

I really enjoyed working on this project because I learned a lot of new things. For example, I learned how to properly design a speaker enclosure, since sound quality depends more on the enclosure than on the speaker itself.

Voice assistant for-HA: common questions

What microcontroller does the Voice assistant for-HA use?

The Voice assistant for-HA is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Voice assistant for-HA PCB?

The Voice assistant for-HA measures 75.1 × 44.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Voice assistant for-HA?

30 components, from 22 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Voice assistant for-HA design files?

From the Matyas604/Voice-assistant-for-HA repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Voice assistant for-HA design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Matyas604. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Voice assistant for-HA without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
