About the Max PCB

Max is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by MaxKiv, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 144.6 × 92.5 mm, with 28 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 21 relays, 2 connectors, 2 resistors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

My custom Piantor + Corne inspired keyboard

An awesome custom split keyboard, at least I think so 😉. Made by Max Kivits and Timon Borg, the KiBo!

This keyboard is loosely based on the [Piantor] and [Cantor] keyboards. It's a 42-key diodeless non-flippable cherry-mx hotswapable mechanical split keyboard with aggressive column staggering. It's powered by 2 RP2040, completely overkill! I redesigned the PCB to use cherry-mx style hotswap switches and adjusted the margins so it fits my hands better. The pcb features an artsy silklayer, because why not?

Max: common questions

What microcontroller does the Max use?

The Max is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Max PCB?

The Max measures 144.6 × 92.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Max?

28 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Max design files?

From the MaxKiv/kibo repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Max design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which MaxKiv chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Max without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
