About the WiFi Radio Project PCB

WiFi Radio Project is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Minall13, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 111 × 69 mm, with 9 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-DevKitC, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MY_MAX98357A. By type, the board carries 4 connectors, 3 ICs and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, audio and rf & radio designs in this gallery.

From the project

ESP32-S3 Wi-Fi internet radio with touchscreen UI, dual-mono I²S audio, custom PCB and 3D-printable enclosure.

A standalone touchscreen Internet radio built around the ESP32-S3, with a curated UK station library, live programme metadata, custom carrier PCB and a fully 3D-printed enclosure.

The Wi-Fi Radio Project was developed from an initial ESP32 prototype into a complete self-contained radio. The hardware, firmware, user interface, station catalogue, artwork pipeline, PCB and enclosure have all been developed specifically for the project.

WiFi Radio Project: common questions

What microcontroller does the WiFi Radio Project use?

The WiFi Radio Project is built around the ESP32-S3-DevKitC, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the WiFi Radio Project PCB?

The WiFi Radio Project measures 111 × 69 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the WiFi Radio Project?

9 components, from 7 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the WiFi Radio Project design files?

From the Minall13/WiFi_Radio_Project repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the WiFi Radio Project design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the WiFi Radio Project without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
