About the Samd21e breakout
Samd21e breakout is an open source Microchip SAM PCB design by mitsake, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 35.7 × 21.6 mm, with 14 components from 11 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ATSAMD21EXX, from the Microchip SAM family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 3 connectors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal and 1 switch.
It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.
From the project
A small breakout board for ATSAMD21Exx chips.
This is a small, simple breakout for the Microchip (formerly Atmel) [ATSAMD21E][] series of chips in the TQFP package. I designed it mostly for something to do while locked down at home, but also so that I could use the bare ICs I had spare from previous projects.

Most I/O pins are broken out, with the exception of PA00/01 (XIN32 and XOUT32 for the watch crystal) and PA24/25 (D- and D+ for USB). The SWD interface is available via either the header, or through the [SOICbite][] connector opposite the USB footprint. There's an…

Samd21e breakout: common questions
What microcontroller does the Samd21e breakout use?
The Samd21e breakout is built around the ATSAMD21EXX, from the Microchip SAM family.
How big is the Samd21e breakout?
The Samd21e breakout measures 35.7 × 21.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Samd21e breakout?
14 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Samd21e breakout design files?
From the mitsake/samd21e-breakout repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Samd21e breakout design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which mitsake chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Samd21e breakout without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Microchip SAM firmware against it before you order a PCB.
