About the USB-Security key. PCB

USB-Security key. is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by MohamadAminGhanoum, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 19.5 × 50.1 mm, with 39 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2350A-QFN60, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q16JVSS, AMS1117-3.3 and USBLC6-2SC6. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 9 resistors, 4 ICs, 2 switches, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

From the project

I want to make this key a type-c key, which i can use to log into my computer or account with for better security. (at the end i had to use USB-A)

So i initially started with making this a usb-c security key, because i would be able to use it on all my devices, however, since the thickness of the board would need to be around 1.6 mm, it would cost too much in jlcpcb, therefore i had to disregard this idea, and move to a usb-type a port. I also wanted this to be assembled by jlcpcb, but since the components are on both sides of the board, it would cost approximately 105 usd to only assemble the board.

USB-Security key.: common questions

What microcontroller does the USB-Security key. use?

The USB-Security key. is built around the RP2350A-QFN60, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the USB-Security key. PCB?

The USB-Security key. measures 19.5 × 50.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the USB-Security key.?

39 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the USB-Security key. design files?

From the MohamadAminGhanoum/USB-Security-key. repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the USB-Security key. design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with MohamadAminGhanoum. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the USB-Security key. without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
