About the RB SWITCH PCB

RB SWITCH is an open source ESP32 PCB design by mrhunsaker, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 115 × 38 mm, with 32 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-MINI-1-N4R2, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 8 resistors, 3 switches, 1 IC, 1 diode and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Accessibility Switch with 3 buttons for previous, select, and next

The RB Switch is a three-button Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) accessibility switch. It presents itself to a computer, tablet, or phone as a standard Bluetooth keyboard, so it works with Switch Control (iOS/iPadOS), Switch Access (Android), and any app that accepts keyboard input.

1. Power the switch from USB-C or its battery. 2. Pair RB Switch in the device's Bluetooth settings. 3. Press each button in a text field: Left, Enter, Right. 4. Set up Switch Control (iOS/iPadOS) or Switch Access (Android) from the guides below.

RB SWITCH: common questions

What microcontroller does the RB SWITCH use?

The RB SWITCH is built around the ESP32-S3-MINI-1-N4R2, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the RB SWITCH PCB?

The RB SWITCH measures 115 × 38 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the RB SWITCH?

32 components, from 19 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RB SWITCH design files?

From the mrhunsaker/RB_SWITCH repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RB SWITCH design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which mrhunsaker chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the RB SWITCH without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
