About the 3x3-MacroPad PCB

3x3-MacroPad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Nahom-Tadiyos, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 63.9 × 81.6 mm, with 19 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 9 switches, 9 diodes and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

I learned to design a 3x3 Keyboard using Autodesk Fusion and KiCad

The FrogPad is a 3x3 macropad designed for simple desk use. It functions as a customizable shortcut controller, allowing quick access to keybinds and media controls.

The macropad is powered by a Seeed XIAO RP2040 and includes a rotary encoder for volume control, making it a versatile addition to any setup. Its small form factor keeps it unobtrusive while still providing useful functionality.

3x3-MacroPad: common questions

What microcontroller does the 3x3-MacroPad use?

The 3x3-MacroPad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the 3x3-MacroPad PCB?

The 3x3-MacroPad measures 63.9 × 81.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 3x3-MacroPad?

19 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 3x3-MacroPad design files?

From the Nahom-Tadiyos/3x3-MacroPad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 3x3-MacroPad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Nahom-Tadiyos. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the 3x3-MacroPad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
