About the Button30mm rev3 PCB

Button30mm rev3 is an open source PIC PCB design by nealpalmer, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 14.2 × 15.7 mm, with 12 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC16F15213-I/SN, from the PIC family. By type, the board carries 6 connectors, 2 resistors, 1 IC, 1 diode and 1 capacitor.

From the project

USB Joystick Controller 12Digital/SmartButton, 4Analog, 1Rotary, 1NeoPixel

This is a couple of circuit boards that make up a fancy USB joystick controller for FRC #2984. It has both a HID joystick interface and a HID uart interface (for configuration) presented to the computer (i.e. it works in Windows and Linux). No embedded programming experience is necessary to get it to work! It also looks like just a HID analog joystick to Windows.

Button30mm rev3: common questions

What microcontroller does the Button30mm rev3 use?

The Button30mm rev3 is built around the PIC16F15213-I/SN, from the PIC family.

How big is the Button30mm rev3 PCB?

The Button30mm rev3 measures 14.2 × 15.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Button30mm rev3?

12 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Button30mm rev3 design files?

From the nealpalmer/UsbJoy repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Button30mm rev3 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which nealpalmer chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Button30mm rev3 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
