About the USB-C-Portable-PSU PCB

USB-C-Portable-PSU is an open source STM32 PCB design by Ng-Chen-Xuan, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 58 × 58 mm, with 151 components from 34 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32G030K8T6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the HUSB238A-XXXXX-QN16R, SY8303AIC, TPS55289RYQR and IS31FL3731-QF. By type, the board carries 65 diodes, 41 resistors, 24 capacitors, 6 switches, 5 ICs and 5 connectors.

It belongs with the power & battery and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

USB-C PD powered variable power supply

The USB-C-Portable-PSU Project is a portable variable power supply designed using KiCad v10.

The PCB was designed with a 4 layer stackup of SIG + PWR / GND / GND / PWR + SIG.

This PCB design serves as both an introduction to power electronics design, as well as a practical tool for hobbyist. Theoretical design practices learnt such as minimising trace inductance, buck-boost converter topology and USB-PD design can be tested in real-life conditions; Practice in programming an LED matrix display and experimentation of the STM32 ecosystem can be gained too.

USB-C-Portable-PSU: common questions

What microcontroller does the USB-C-Portable-PSU use?

The USB-C-Portable-PSU is built around the STM32G030K8T6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the USB-C-Portable-PSU PCB?

The USB-C-Portable-PSU measures 58 × 58 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the USB-C-Portable-PSU?

151 components, from 34 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the USB-C-Portable-PSU design files?

From the Ng-Chen-Xuan/USB-C-Portable-PSU repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the USB-C-Portable-PSU design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which Ng-Chen-Xuan chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the USB-C-Portable-PSU without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
