About the Desktop companion PCB

Desktop companion is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by Nikolaossamaras, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 64.5 × 69 mm, with 11 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the WEMOS_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the MPU-6050. By type, the board carries 2 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 capacitors, 2 resistors, 1 battery holder and 1 switch.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

A desktop robot that keeps you company , provides liveliness to your desk

It's a small robot roughly 80x85x40 mm that just keeps you company reacts to your touch and to any movement that happens on the desk

- the pcb , that you can order from pcbway or JLCPCB - if you dont want the pcb you can buy the modules by them selves - check the BOM in the files to know exactly what you need

the Firmware is the code , but i am not sure if it works cause i dont have the parts on me . The code also may be wrong for the same reason .

Desktop companion: common questions

What microcontroller does the Desktop companion use?

The Desktop companion is built around the WEMOS_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Desktop companion PCB?

The Desktop companion measures 64.5 × 69 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Desktop companion?

11 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Desktop companion design files?

From the Nikolaossamaras/Desktop-companion repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Desktop companion design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Nikolaossamaras. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Desktop companion without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
