About the Die carrier PCB

Die carrier is an open source PCB design by njcoburn, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 40 × 40 mm, with 34 components from 11 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the OIS_3X3_BARE_DIE_PROVISIONAL. By type, the board carries 24 connectors, 2 resistors, 1 IC and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

OPENIMAGESENSOR - An open source image sensor.

Prepared 19 September 2026. Two editable KiCad 7 projects implement the provisional 40 × 40 mm carrier and a tester with an optical aperture. Engineering review prototype; not released for fabrication.

Your existing KiCad installation is sufficient (KiCad 7 or newer). Copy the entire hardware/carrier folder to Windows, or extract the accompanying openimagesensor-kicad-review.zip. Open these project files from KiCad's File → Open Existing Project:

Die carrier: common questions

How big is the Die carrier PCB?

The Die carrier measures 40 × 40 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Die carrier?

34 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Die carrier design files?

From the njcoburn/OPENIMAGESENSOR repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Die carrier design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which njcoburn chose for the repository.
