About the Splitkb PCB

Splitkb is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by NoseFa, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 250.6 × 125.7 mm, with 150 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the NRF52840, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 74 switches, 74 diodes and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

A wireless split low-profile keyboard with a nordic layout

A split low-profile wireless keyboard with a nordic ISO layout. I used the Caldera Keyboard by Christian Selig as inspiration and it clearly shows in the design. Still the keyboard uses a nice!nano like microcontroller based on the same NRF52840, ZMK as the firmware and a custom pcb with Choc V1 hotswap sockets. The keyboard also has an ortholinear layout which can be more ergonomic for some users.

Splitkb: common questions

What microcontroller does the Splitkb use?

The Splitkb is built around the NRF52840, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Splitkb PCB?

The Splitkb measures 250.6 × 125.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Splitkb?

150 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Splitkb design files?

From the NoseFa/splitkb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Splitkb design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which NoseFa chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Splitkb without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
