About the PDU PCB

PDU is an open source STM32 PCB design by OpenSkyHawk, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 96.6 × 63.9 mm, with 67 components from 36 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F103C8Tx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the INA180A2, AMS1117-3.3 and SN65HVD230. By type, the board carries 22 capacitors, 20 resistors, 7 diodes, 6 connectors, 5 ICs and 2 fuses.

From the project

DCS A-4E Skyhawk home cockpit — 3D-printed panels, custom PCBs, STM32/RP2040 firmware

Physical DCS A-4E Skyhawk home cockpit — 3D-printed panels, custom PCBs, and STM32 firmware for the DCS A-4E Community Mod. Controllers communicate over CAN bus.

Each physical panel group is driven by one STM32F103CBT6 MCU board. Boards communicate over CAN bus via Molex Mini-Fit Jr connectors. Panel breakout boards connect to their MCU board via 6- or 8-pin JST-XH harnesses. Firmware is built with PlatformIO.

PDU: common questions

What microcontroller does the PDU use?

The PDU is built around the STM32F103C8Tx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the PDU PCB?

The PDU measures 96.6 × 63.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PDU?

67 components, from 36 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PDU design files?

From the OpenSkyHawk/OpenSkyhawk repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PDU design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the PDU without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
