About the Gateway Bridge PCB

Gateway Bridge is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by OpenSkyHawk, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 98.9 × 70.1 mm, with 55 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040-ZERO, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the STM32F103C8Tx, SN65HVD230 and AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 15 capacitors, 8 connectors, 7 diodes, 4 ICs and 1 crystal.

Physical DCS A-4E Skyhawk home cockpit — 3D-printed panels, custom PCBs, and STM32 firmware for the DCS A-4E Community Mod. Controllers communicate over CAN bus.

Each physical panel group is driven by one STM32F103CBT6 MCU board. Boards communicate over CAN bus via Molex Mini-Fit Jr connectors. Panel breakout boards connect to their MCU board via 6- or 8-pin JST-XH harnesses. Firmware is built with PlatformIO.

Gateway Bridge: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gateway Bridge use?

The Gateway Bridge is built around the RP2040-ZERO, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Gateway Bridge PCB?

The Gateway Bridge measures 98.9 × 70.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gateway Bridge?

55 components, from 30 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gateway Bridge design files?

From the OpenSkyHawk/OpenSkyhawk repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gateway Bridge design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Gateway Bridge without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
