About the Hardware PCB

Hardware is an open source RISC-V PCB design by openvalence, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 6-layer board measuring 58 × 58 mm, with 273 components from 122 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the CH32V003F4U6, from the RISC-V family. Other key parts include the LTC4364IS-1, TPS48111, TLV1805, TLV431 and TPS54560B 12V. By type, the board carries 143 resistors, 58 capacitors, 17 diodes, 15 connectors, 13 ICs and 13 transistors.

From the project

The OSSM Flagship PCB (ESP32-P4 + ESP32-C6) and everything physical around it. KiCad, CERN-OHL-S.

Hardware for the Valence ecosystem: the OSSM Flagship controller board (ESP32-P4 + ESP32-C6, runs Nucleus), and everything physical around it: harnesses, panels, enclosure parts, bench fixtures, and the reference wiring for the drive.

Design tool: KiCad (native text formats, diffable). Vendor datasheets and manuals live under reference/ and are not tracked (see .gitignore); the board documents what it needs from them.

Hardware: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hardware use?

The Hardware is built around the CH32V003F4U6, from the RISC-V family.

How big is the Hardware PCB?

The Hardware measures 58 × 58 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hardware?

273 components, from 122 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hardware design files?

From the openvalence/Hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hardware design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which openvalence chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Hardware without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RISC-V firmware against it before you order a PCB.
