About the SCOUT2 PCB
SCOUT2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by oskitone, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 221.4 × 52.3 mm, with 88 components from 24 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM386 and 6N138. By type, the board carries 27 diodes, 26 switches, 14 resistors, 8 capacitors, 4 connectors and 3 ICs.
It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.
From the project
This is a prototype around a PCB I sent off to fab in March 2022... that I'm slowly bringing back to life. I'm kind of using it as a springboard for the next thing, whatever that is and whenever it happens!

Very much work-in-progress. License will be MIT like other kits.
- Kicad project - OpenSCAD for scaffolding and keys models - STLs for 3D-printing
- Easy to solder. Only through-hole parts, even if it limits functionality. - Easy to change. Code can be edited with free software and cheap hardware. - Easy to play. No hidden menus, secret key combos, or overloading. One control per one…

SCOUT2: common questions
What microcontroller does the SCOUT2 use?
The SCOUT2 is built around the ATMEGA328P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the SCOUT2 PCB?
The SCOUT2 measures 221.4 × 52.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the SCOUT2?
88 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the SCOUT2 design files?
From the oskitone/scout_2_prototype repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the SCOUT2 design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with oskitone. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the SCOUT2 without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
