About the Easyboard PCB

Easyboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by parya7254, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 429.8 × 133.5 mm, with 290 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040_Pro_Micro, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 192 diodes, 96 switches, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the displays & leds and keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A hot swappable tenkeyless (full size but without the number pad) mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting and an OLED (SSD1306) display! It will use a RP2040 Pro Micro as the controller, SK6812-MINI-E (reverse mount) LEDs for the backlight, and MX-style switches (and also MX-style hot swap sockets).

And after that, I placed my parts on the PCB and then wired them:

The hardest part of designing this keyboard was wiring the things together in my PCB, expecially the LEDs. I ran into many rabbit holes during this process since lots of things were in the way and there was not encough space to wire some things so I had to move some traces and sometimes entirely rewire some things just so I can wire other things. Designing the keyboard made me want to give up and scrap everything and start another project, but I still continued and managed to finish everything.

Easyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Easyboard use?

The Easyboard is built around the RP2040_Pro_Micro, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Easyboard PCB?

The Easyboard measures 429.8 × 133.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Easyboard?

290 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Easyboard design files?

From the parya7254/Easyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Easyboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with parya7254. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Easyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
