About the ATtinyStep PCB

ATtinyStep is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by penayush-tronics, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 42 × 23.5 mm, with 19 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny1624-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LSM6DSL and AP2112K-3.3. By type, the board carries 4 connectors, 4 capacitors, 4 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 diodes and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the sensors, displays & leds and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

An ATtiny powered step counter and speed/distance measuring device that fits in the palm of your hand.

ATtinyStep is a compact, rechargeable, and portable offline step counter as well as speedometer. It helps in reaching your step goals at a healthy pace, while enjoying the outside world instead of doomscrolling with your neck down. It uses a 6-axis Accelrometer+Gyro IMU (Interital Measurment Unit) and the processing capabilities of the ATtiny1624 to easily count your steps automatically. As a bonus, it doubles as breakout board for the ATtiny1624, so it can be used for more projects other than a speedometer.

ATtinyStep: common questions

What microcontroller does the ATtinyStep use?

The ATtinyStep is built around the ATtiny1624-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the ATtinyStep PCB?

The ATtinyStep measures 42 × 23.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ATtinyStep?

19 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ATtinyStep design files?

From the penayush-tronics/ATtinyStep repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ATtinyStep design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with penayush-tronics. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ATtinyStep without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
