About the TransimpedanceAmplifier PCB

TransimpedanceAmplifier is an open source PCB design by philipturner, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 36.5 × 42 mm, with 13 components from 11 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LM78L15ACMX, LM79L15ACMX, LM78L05ACMX, LM79L05ACMX and AD8615AUJZ. By type, the board carries 9 ICs and 4 resistors.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

Low-cost custom-built STM, to solve a problem not addressed by commercial STMs

STM with no nonlinearities in the relationship between piezo voltage and position.

This project is officially a NANO 4994 research project for Spring 2025, worth 3 credits. After months of research, I found a potential solution to my main goal of building an STM, solving piezo creep. I discovered a new material that could make better piezoelectric actuators: lithium niobate. I am listing some of the calculations and scripts I have done. Currently, I am speed-running the tutorials for FreeCAD and KiCad. I have gotten through ~50% of them.

TransimpedanceAmplifier: common questions

How big is the TransimpedanceAmplifier PCB?

The TransimpedanceAmplifier measures 36.5 × 42 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6256 mm thick.

How many components are on the TransimpedanceAmplifier?

13 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TransimpedanceAmplifier design files?

From the philipturner/home-built-stm repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TransimpedanceAmplifier design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with philipturner. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
