About the Pico1541-rs PCB

Pico1541-rs is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by piersfinlayson, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70.4 × 28.2 mm, with 24 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the TXS0108EPW. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 4 transistors, 3 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 capacitors and 1 diode.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 1 earlier revision of it.

From the project

A port of the OpenCBM xum1541 firmware to the Raspberry Pi Pico, in Rust using `embassy`.

The pico1541 project re-implements the Commodore USB interface (the xum1541) for the Raspberry Pi Pico, and in Rust, using the Embassy project.

The project is currently a work in progress, with the initial aim being to replicate the existing xum1541 functionality.

If you want to contribute to the project, contact the owner at .

The Raspberry Pi brings much higher processing power to the pico1541, making it feasible to additional features and functionality to the traditional xum1541 device, such as a WiFi interface an in-memory cache.

Pico1541-rs: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pico1541-rs use?

The Pico1541-rs is built around the Raspberry_Pi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Pico1541-rs PCB?

The Pico1541-rs measures 70.4 × 28.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pico1541-rs?

24 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pico1541-rs design files?

From the piersfinlayson/pico1541-rs repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pico1541-rs design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which piersfinlayson chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Pico1541-rs without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
