About the ENGR357 Project v1.1 PCB

ENGR357 Project v1.1 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by pricna, published on GitHub under the MPL-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 74 × 72.1 mm, with 66 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the Si5351A-B-GT, SN74CBT3253, INA821ID and LM4562. By type, the board carries 26 capacitors, 19 resistors, 6 ICs, 4 jumpers, 3 transistors and 3 connectors.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 1 earlier revision of it.

From the project

Software Defined Radio receiver created for Engineering Electronics II at Walla Walla University.

Introduction: This SDR receiver was designed to be simple and low cost, operate in the 10 MHz to 16 MHz frequency range, and also meet specific design criteria specified below. We (Nate Price and Jared Evans), designed, assembled, and tested the SDR receiver to be used with a free open source SDR software, called Quisk. More information on the design, issues, testing, and software aspects of this project can be found on the wiki page.

ENGR357 Project v1.1: common questions

What microcontroller does the ENGR357 Project v1.1 use?

The ENGR357 Project v1.1 is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the ENGR357 Project v1.1 PCB?

The ENGR357 Project v1.1 measures 74 × 72.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ENGR357 Project v1.1?

66 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ENGR357 Project v1.1 design files?

From the pricna/Software-Defined-Radio-Receiver repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ENGR357 Project v1.1 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MPL-2.0 license, which pricna chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ENGR357 Project v1.1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
