About the MediaHackpad PCB

MediaHackpad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Protract-123, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99 × 95 mm, with 23 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 11 diodes, 10 switches, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

My submission for Hackpad

This is my submission for Hackpad! Has the following very cool features

- 2 Neopixels - A 128x32 OLED screen - 9 keys in a 3x3 orientation - KMK firmware

I had to rework the PCB traces a few times to make space for mounting holes, but it worked out in the end. The dimensions of the PCB are 99x95 (WxH)

Was relatively painless to make the case once I finalised my PCB design, the only issue was I went back and forth a few times.

MediaHackpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the MediaHackpad use?

The MediaHackpad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the MediaHackpad PCB?

The MediaHackpad measures 99 × 95 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MediaHackpad?

23 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MediaHackpad design files?

From the Protract-123/Hackpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MediaHackpad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Protract-123. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the MediaHackpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
