About the Esprit PCB

Esprit is an open source ESP32 PCB design by r4d10n, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 38.1 × 52.1 mm, with 25 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32_DEVKIT_V1_DOIT, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 5 connectors, 5 capacitors, 3 diodes, 2 switches and 1 IC.

It belongs with the rf & radio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

ESPRI Radio Interface - Through Hole version with ESP32 DOIT board

ESPRI project provides an integrated Digital Audio / Programming Interface for Quangsheng UV-K5, Baofeng UV-5R and other Kenwood-style connector radios, similar to the excellent AIOC project. With ESP32 offering WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity, the possibilities are endless !

Since Lolin32 Lite is not common in this part of the world and SMD sourcing / assembly is still cumbersome, we've attempted a Through Hole version for the most common 30 pin ESP32 DOIT board.

Esprit: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esprit use?

The Esprit is built around the ESP32_DEVKIT_V1_DOIT, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Esprit PCB?

The Esprit measures 38.1 × 52.1 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esprit?

25 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esprit design files?

From the r4d10n/esprit repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esprit design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with r4d10n. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Esprit without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
