About the Twisty-2-MIDIController PCB

Twisty-2-MIDIController is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by rheslip, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 95.8 × 122.3 mm, with 62 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the CD74HC4067PWR and SSD1603_OLED. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 18 switches, 17 diodes, 4 ICs, 2 resistors and 1 module.

It belongs with the audio, displays & leds and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

2nd Gen MIDI controller using Raspberry Pi Pico or Pico 2

The Twisty 2 MIDI controller has 16 parameter encoders with switches, 16 RGB LEDs, 2 menu encoders, 128x32 pixel OLED display, USB MIDI, TRS MIDI Out, and optional Bluetooth MIDI with Pico W or Pico 2W. It provides four pages of MIDI controls and fully customizable MIDI messages, encoder ranges, switch functions and LED colors for each control. Text labels can be attached to each control as a visual aid to what the control does. You can save and recall up to 16 controller setups in the Pico's flash memory. STL files for a 3D printed case are provided as well.

Twisty-2-MIDIController: common questions

What microcontroller does the Twisty-2-MIDIController use?

The Twisty-2-MIDIController is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Twisty-2-MIDIController PCB?

The Twisty-2-MIDIController measures 95.8 × 122.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Twisty-2-MIDIController?

62 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Twisty-2-MIDIController design files?

From the rheslip/Twisty-2-MIDIController repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Twisty-2-MIDIController design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with rheslip. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Twisty-2-MIDIController without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
