About the Lightning in a bottle PCB

Lightning in a bottle is an open source PCB design by rolypolytoy, published on GitHub under the Unlicense license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 22 × 32 mm, with 20 components from 15 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LMH6629SD/NOPB and TPS7A3301RGWR. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 5 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 connectors, 1 diode and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

The world's best charge sensitive amplifier

Lightning in a bottle is an open-source, low-cost charge sensitive amplifier with several improvements over all existing commercial designs.

It has a >2x lower cost, a 750x greater gain, >5x greater bandwidth, >50% lower cost, and sub-5 dB lower SNR. Importantly- its real SNR will be higher since the gain is >750x, and since ADCs have noise, our gain will basically reduce that noise by 750x, and so in real systems our CSA will have a much higher SNR than Cremat's module, and thus this has no real 'weakness'. It also uses standard +5V as its power source rather than the weird +-6V-13V…
