About the Hx4k pmod PCB

Hx4k pmod is an open source STM32 PCB design by rschlaikjer, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 55 mm, with 97 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F070CBTx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the ICE40HX4K-TQ144, W25Q128JVS, LED_ABGR, AZ1117-3.3 and AZ1117-1.2. By type, the board carries 53 capacitors, 19 resistors, 12 connectors, 6 ICs, 4 diodes and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

Lattice HX4K breakout board, designed for hand-assembly

This repository contains the KiCad hardware design files, flash programming firmware and some gateware samples for a basic FPGA breakout board based on the Lattice Ice40 HX4K.

More information about this project can be found in this blog post.

- Soldering iron (TS-100 or TS-80 would be fine for this) - Flux (Massively simplifies the soldering of the QFP packages) - Fine tweezers (I recommend Rhino SW-11 or comparable) - [Optional] Hot air rework station. The '858D' hot air station is available from many resellers at reasonable prices, and is more than adequate.

Hx4k pmod: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hx4k pmod use?

The Hx4k pmod is built around the STM32F070CBTx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Hx4k pmod PCB?

The Hx4k pmod measures 100 × 55 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hx4k pmod?

97 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hx4k pmod design files?

From the rschlaikjer/hx4k-pmod repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hx4k pmod design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which rschlaikjer chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Hx4k pmod without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
